Day One - Arrive at CALICUT airport in Kerala
Calicut was once the most important region of Malabar - Vasco de Gama was the first European to open up these important trade routes in India arriving at Kappad in 1498. Your driver will take you to the wonderful Home-stay Ayisha Manzil in Thalassery where you will be looked after by Mr Moosa and his family during your two night stay.
In the afternoon your host will take you to enjoy the amazing Theyyam - perhaps the significant ritualistic art form of Kerala predominant in the Kolathunadu area dating back several thousand years.
Day Two - Thalassery
Morning - time for you to relax and then in the afternoon your host will take you to visit the local market to purchase the ingredients for your dinner - the preparation and cooking will be demonstrated by your host and is a fabulous way of introducing you to the South Kerala, Central Kerala and Northern Kerala cuisine.
Day Three - Thalassery to Wayanad - 120 Kms - three hour drive
After breakfast experience the drive through the mountains to the Rain Forests of Wayanad - in the afternoon check into your hotel with free time for you to relax.
Day Four - Wayanad
The morning is free to relax after breakfast and in the afternoon your driver will take you to explore the Pookode Lake, the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary and the Edakkal Caves.
Day Five - Wayanad to Ooty - 135kms and 3 hour drive
Ooty your next destination - known as the 'Queen of Hill Stations' and located 2286 metres (7500 ft) above sea level - we will try to include visits to popular attractions including the Botanical Gardens, Mukurti Peak and the Pykara Dam.
Day Six - Ooty to Munnar - 220kms and 6 hour drive
After breakfast drive to Munnar the beautiful hill station situated on the Western Ghats at approximately 1600 meters above sea level. On arrival check into your hotel and the afternoon is free for you to relax and explore locally.
Day Seven - Munnar to Thekkady
In the morning we will help you to explore this area - our sightseeing will include visiting the Eravikulam National Park, the Mattupetty Dam and the tea factory - after which enjoy the spectacular drive to Thekkady, home to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary - one of the finest animal reserves in India.
Day Eight - Thekkady
After breakfast enjoy a 2.5 hour, 5km walk through the Periyar National Park - then in the afternoon visit a spice plantation before relaxing on a 2 hour boat cruise around the lake.
Day Nine - Thekkady to Cochin - 200 kms and 5 hour drive
Your next destination is the vibrant City of Cochin - Queen of the Arabian Seas - one of India's most interesting cities and home to one of the finest natural harbours in the world. Steeped in History Cochin has history, culture and scenery - in the afternoon we will take you on a guided tour to include the St Francis Church, Mattancherry (Dutch) Palace, the Jewish Synagogue and the famous Chinese Fishing Nets. (Dutch Palace and Synagogue closed on Friday - plus the Synagogue closed Saturday and other Special Holidays.)
In the evening enjoy watching the preparations and performance of the famous Kathakali performance.
Day Ten - Cochin - Alleppey - 75kms and 2 hour drive
After breakfast we will take you to board your Houseboat for your 22 hour cruise exploring the backwaters - stopping off where possible for you to walk along the banks to explore the local villages.
Day Eleven - Alleppey to Pathanamthitta (Manas Veedu) - 45kms and 1 hour drive
Located between two mountains at Prakannam Village, Pathanamthitta District in Kerala the beautiful 5 bedroom Mannaas Veedu is a 125 year old Home Stay. In the afternoon we will take you to visit Aranmula declared an International Tourism Destination by the Government home to the famous Parthasarathy Temple on the banks of the Holy River Pamba and dedicated to Lord Krishna. In addition this area is famous for the Aranmula Kannadi Mirror made from a metallic mix by a traditional family.
Day Twelve - Pathanamthitta - Kovalam - 110 kms and a 3 hour drive
Drive down to the beautiful resort of Kovalam for your final destination and time to relax by the beach.
Day Thirteen - Kovalam
Free for you to relax and explore or we can give you an additional option to visit Trivandrum for a sightseeing opportunity.
