Kollam
Dating back to the 9th Century AD
Once an international centre of trade, and indeed is still a prosperous commercial area being the headquarters of the Kerala State Cashew Development Centre - Kollam Town is situated approximately 71 km north of Trivandrum. The town is thought to have links back to the 9th Century AD being built by a Syrian Merchant by the name of Sapir Iso.
Interesting location
The elegant 200 year old Government Guest House, together with the adventure park located on the shores of the Ashtamudi Lake is a major attraction. Mahatma Gandhi beach is located 2kms from the town centre, and the 144ft Thangassery Light House build in 1902 is also a popular photo opportunity.
