Pooram

Pooram – meaning Festivals are held throughout Kerala with the most famous being the Thrissur Pooram.

For nearly two centuries the annual Thrissur Pooram Festival has been celebrated between the months of April to May in accordance with the Malayalam calendar in the Temple Town of Thrissur.

Commencing early in the morning and continuing for over 36 hours ending at 12 noon the following day – this amazing Festival is a spectacular mix of music, dance performances and elephant processions.

In the evening of Pooram two lines of 13 elephants face each other, each of these elaborately adorned elephants carry a ceremonial umbrella holder, a peacock-fan carrier and a yak-tail flywhisk holder – with the ever increasing tempo from the percussion and wind orchestras - the display of ceremonial umbrellas – and amazing spectacle of music and dance performances – this magnificent parade culminates with a fabulous firework spectacular.
